Parks

The City of Chetopa offers four parks (two with camping), along with a community center.

 

Elmore Park

...is located on North 3rd Street where it intersects with 4000 Road. Camping is available. Portable toilets, two shelter houses and a boat ramp are also located in this park, as are a ball field and sand volleyball court.

East River Park

...is located just off Highway 166 East of the Neosho River. Camping is available. With two boat ramps, a fish cleaning station and portable toilets, this park is an excellent place to enjoy lots of fishing. East River park now includes a new 9-hole disk golf course, as well!

Veteran’s Park

...is located at 1st & Maple Street and is the location of the public swimming pool.  The pool is generally open from Memorial Day through the beginning of school, approximately mid-August. The hours are  1-7 pm every day. It is available evenings for pool parties. Admission is $2, ages 5 & under are free.  Season Passes: Single - $40; Family up to 4 - $80 with any additional member over 4 - $10 each.

 

After hours parties can be booked by contacting the pool manager, Barbara Johnson or the assistant managers Brenda Dominguez or Michelle Barker-Rupert.  Swimming lessons are held in late July or early August, watch for announced dates and times on Chetopa City Pool Facebook page.  There are two shelter houses located in this park, as well as the Mae Lessley Community Building. The shelter houses can be reserved by contacting City office at 620-236-7541.

 

Mae Lessley Community Building

...was built in 2011 to benefit the community. Town Hall meetings, Chamber of Commerce meetings and events are held here. The back portion of the building houses the Ministerial Alliance Food Bank, as well as serving as the distribution center for commodities. It can be rented for all types of occasions by contacting Chetopa State Bank at 620-236-7277. The building rents for $25 for normal events, with a $30 cleaning deposit being required. If alcoholic beverages are to be allowed, there has be prior city council approval, then a $100 rental fee, and a $150 cleaning deposit will be charged. Tables and chairs are included for your use, with the individual being responsible for all setting up and taking down. The building is located at 22 Maple St. which is situated in the Northwest corner of Veteran’s park.

 

Mark Carter Memorial Skate Park

...is located 430 Walnut and is the site of a small skate board course and a basketball court. There are lights available for night games, but you are asked to make sure they are turned off when you leave.
